This was one very cool wedding! Mitu booked me way back for their wedding photography at Northbrook Park and what a pleasure it was photographing their big day, which included both civil and Muslim wedding ceremonies. It was pretty unique and we were fortunate enough to have an absolutely perfect sunny day. George is from the USA and many guests had traveled over to the UK to join in the festivities. George made an entrance on a lovely horse accompanied by his family and friends dancing beside him, with Dohl drummers leading the way. What an atmosphere that was!
After the civil ceremony we all made our way outside for the Nikah ceremony. Then it was time for a quick couple shoot started off with a few shots including the lovely horse. Getting good photos is not only about the photographer’s creativity and technical ability, but also about what the couple give to the session themselves – and they gave in spades which was great!
The reception started off with a Ukranian welcoming ceremony for the couple. After starters we had a candle uniting ceremony followed by the cutting of the cake. There was no fancy knife for this part (well actually there was), but they used George’s sword instead! How cool is that! After desert it was time for the Ukranian blessing followed by the sharing of the Korovai (Ukranian bread decorated with small birds which are given to each guest). So there were lots of fabulous ceremonies throughout the day which was very interesting.
Then it was time for the first dance followed by loads of dancing afterwards, including lots of Greek dancing as part of George’s family is Greek. From my point of view, it was one of the most fun weddings I have photographed, with an amazing couple, guests and venue.
