Last year Jo and Luke got in touch with me to enquire about photographing their Great Fosters wedding. I had photographed her brother Jon’s wedding at Northbrook Park a few years ago – speaking of which it was excellent to see Jon and Laila and have a catch up! I arrived nice and early at Jo’s parents’ beautiful house in Cobham where she got ready. Thankfully the weather was glorious and slightly cooler than the crazy hot weather a couple of days before, which was apparently the hottest day on record in the UK in nearly a decade! There was such a lovely atmosphere of excitement and anticipation and as always, time flew by.

We then made our way over to Christ the Prince of Peace church a short drive away in Weybridge. From a photographers point of view it is a really nice, modern church with great light, so that was brilliant. After the ceremony it was off to Great Fosters for the wedding reception. It is a stunning setting with beautiful grounds and gardens. Fair enough to say it is a wedding photographer’s dream venue! I particularly like shooting weddings at Kew Gardens, but I must say that this is right up there at the same level.

With the fab weather most people enjoyed the drinks reception outside and we then jumped into the family/group photos before heading inside for the reception. A magician entertained the guests with some amazing and at times hilarious tricks, including the ever amusing sight of hypnotising one of the guests!

After speeches we popped outside for a couple shoot. It’s a real bonus in the middle of summer having such long days which meant we could happily schedule in the couple shoot after dinner and speeches. Clouds had somewhat set in but as always, and I do seem to be pretty lucky, the sun broke through moments before the start of the couple shoot meaning we had beautiful “golden hour” light to work with. My favourite type of light! I have said it before but it is worth repeating. Great photos are not only determined by the photographer’s technical and artistic skills alone. The couple also contribute in terms of what they “give back” to the shoot. Well there was no shortage of that here as Jo and Luke were as natural and expressive as I could ever wish for, giving me moment after moment to capture.

Then it was time for cutting the cake, tossing the bouquet and the first dance, after which casino tables opened providing guests with loads of fun and entertainment. That wrapped up a beautiful Great Fosters wedding with a really, really lovely couple who looked absolutely stunning!
