I recently had the pleasure of photographing Tina and JM’s Sikh wedding in Milton Keynes. The day started very early photographing Tina’s preparation in a nearby hotel. Then we made our way to her family home followed by the Gurdwara for the ceremony. The weather was amazing all day long and thankfully I didn’t forget to layer myself with sun cream before starting in the morning!
After the ceremony came the big surprise. Well, I knew about it in advance after being tipped off by the groom, but instead of driving to the reception venue, Shelswell Park outside Bicester, we drove around the corner to a field where a helicopter was waiting to fly us there instead. How cool is that! Ten minutes later we were there and went straight into a short couple portrait shoot. Then we took off and flew to another part of the vast grounds to complete the couple shoot – not after having some very interested cows wander over for a closer look!
Then it was time for the outdoor blessing before everyone made their way into the fabulously decorated marquee for speeches and dinner. I have never seen a marquee quite like it, and the decorations were spectacular to say the least.
After an entrance led by dohl drummers it was time for the cake cutting followed by the first dance and loads of crazy dancing afterwards.
I finished off with a night time portrait using some off-camera lighting before saying my goodbyes. What a special day it was – a Sikh wedding ceremony, a blessing, a couple of helicopter flights and a reception all in the most perfect weather with a fantastic couple!
